19.07.2024

The Minister for Communities and Return, Nenad Rašić, visited the city of Prizren today, where he met with the beneficiaries of the grants awarded by his ministry. He was warmly received by the representatives of local businesses and visited some of the beneficiaries of the grants, where he had the opportunity to see closely the projects that have benefited from this financial support, contributing significantly to the local economy. Minister  Rašić's visit included several grantee businesses, each demonstrating unique advancements and contributions to the community. The businesses span different sectors, including wood processing, metal processing and jewelry design, Vita Laboratory and Radio Omega 3, each benefiting from strategic investments to improve their operations.

Wood Processing Enterprise

One of the most prominent visits was to a wood processing shop, which received a grant of €8,000. The business invested in a modern machine for wood processing and lifting, in accordance with EU standards. The company, which now employs four permanent workers and two seasonal workers, is the only provider of such specialized services in the Prizren area. With only four similar businesses in the Western Kosovo region, this store plans to expand further by opening a new assembly plant for the production of kitchens and furniture, which requires an additional investment of 15,000 euros.

Innovations in Metal Processing

The minister also visited a metal processing company that has purchased modern metal processing equipment and engines. This business employs two permanent workers and one temporary worker. They have embraced innovation by integrating modern IT technologies in line with EU standards, requiring ongoing training programs. Development plans include the opening of a new production plant in 2025 and the signing of a major contract with a well-known company for the reconstruction of transport machinery.

Jewelry Design and Processing

In addition, a jewelry design and processing enterprise has used grant funds to improve its craftsmanship, hiring two skilled workers. This investment has enabled the company to improve its manufacturing capabilities and design offerings, contributing to the cultural and economic landscape of Prizren.

Minister Rašić praised the entrepreneurs for their dedication and innovative approaches, stating: "It is important that grants end up in the right hands".

"It's not just that it's an ad hoc moment where we give some money and we don't know what happened to it." No, this is something different, we want it to be a partnership together with those who invest in that program, invest themselves, their physical strength, their health and follow them in their work. As our program also says, it is also written in their contract that every other year, if they prove that they have done the right work, they can apply for the expansion of jobs if necessary," said Minister Rašić .

"These businesses exemplify the potential of strategic investments in driving local economic growth. Their success stories are a testament to the effectiveness of our grant programs in empowering small and medium-sized enterprises to reach new heights."

The visit concluded with discussions on further opportunities for cooperation and support, ensuring that Prizren continues to be a center of innovation and economic vitality.

As Minister Rašić left Prizren, the grant recipients expressed their gratitude for the recognition and support, reaffirming their commitment to contribute to the economic prosperity of Kosovo. The visit not only highlighted the achievements of these businesses, but also reinforced the importance of continued investment in the region's future.
